What is the purpose of a pap smear? How is it different from a pelvic exam?

it's a test of a sample of cells taken from a woman's cervix. its done during a pelvic exam. I have had lots of pap smear over the years and while they can be quite uncomfortable, they are very helpful in determining reproductive health and wellness.

can prevent common problems like cervicitis and others.

sexually active women should have a pap smear or pelvic exam 2x a year!

they can be uncomfortable especially when the speculum is inserted into the vagina...and i always found the clinking of the instruments well weird! but it is something we as women have to put up with to ensure our reproductive health!

its a fairly quick procedure too, around 15 minutes. for first timers it can be weird having someone's face looking down there, but after a while you don't think about it. doctors are quite good at putting their patients at ease.

Its the swabbing part that kinda gives me goosebumps...otherwise the rest is OK with me.

to check if you have things to worry about down there. should get one if you are sexually active

this is also a very good test to see if you have any STDs and other problems that may not seem so obvious. this is very important as it focuses on reproductive and sexual health.

this test is relatively quick and it does not cost too much especially if you have insurance.

it is recommended that sexually active women have have pap smears twice a year
