The top warning signs are:

1. frequent urination
2. unquenchable thirst
3. weight loss w/o trying
4. fatigue
5. tingling sensation or weakness in hands, legs or feet
6. blurry vision, dry skin

im going to add: cuts that are slow to heal, yeast infection and impotence

but if you drink lots of water you urinate a lot! how is that a symptom then?
