What are some risks when getting pregnant? Who are at risk?

Both the mother and child are at risk while being pregnant. There is always the risk of picking up an infection while pregnant. There is also pre-eclampsia (for those who have high blood pressure). Women who have diabetes are also at risk and this can be hereditary.

Every pregnancy has a risk. High risk pregnancies are mothers who are expecting more than one baby, have cancer, diabetes, autoimmune disease, hiv/STD, over 35 years old, those who have previous miscarriages, high blood pressure and heart ailments. All of these can complicate pregnancies and usually have effects on both the mother and child.
