I have a very irregular period and can never tell when my periods are going to start. The length of my cycle changes..one month could be 33days but this months lasted near 40 days. I have seen my doctor and am being referred to a gynacologist but may not get an appointment for months.

In the mean time i can't go on birth control and am wondering how i can prevent pregnancy if i don't know when i am fertile.?? My partner and i always use a condom but i cant help being worried.

Would really appreciate any help

I understand your concerns. You can use a spermicidal foam or a cervical cap along with the condom if your worried. Condoms get a bad rap, but if they are used correctly they never break. Want to test this? Unroll a condom and fill it with water, see for your self how much water it holds and how far it stretches before it breaks. I think you will be surprised.

So why do all these people have horror stories about condoms breaking? Simply that they don't read the instructions. There are two giant No-No's with condoms. Never use Vaseline, or other petroleum based lubricants with a condom. It eats right through the rubber, and it does this very quickly. Second mistake most people make is yanking the thing on tightly. You shouldn't stretch the condom tightly at all. Leave some space at the tip for the condom to move around the head of the penis. This space also gives the semen some place to go when he finishes.

Keep these simple issues in mind and you shouldn't have any troubles.

Oh, and never buy generic condoms. Name brands are best.

Thank you for your reply. That puts me more at ease as we are always very careful using the condom and always check that it hasn't broken. Its just a pain not being able to know when im most fertile just to be extra careful. We do spend more time on foreplay than actual sex but its always in the back of our minds as we are both still young and don't want kids just yet.!
