Sex Ed in school usually promotes Abstinence and Monogamy to help teens cope with sexual pressure in school. Does abstinence as birth control work? Not just for teens but for adults too?

They are what they are Ideals. In reality, it would be better to educate them about safe sex :(

sexydevil

LOL abstinence?! what school did you go to?

Sabrina2000

Yah it's hard to abstain from sex...sigh...especially today where everything is bombarded with sexy images left and right. But it is something to think about rather than openly broadcasting to kids that all sex is OK. I mean how would you feel if it were your kid? It may not be a realistic alternative but it is still an alternative.

Donnabelle

Realistic? Nope don't think so. Asking teens to abstain from sex is like...asking the sun not to rise! lol! It's a pipe dream! Ideal yes, realistic no, practical no...

I hear yah sisters! Abstinence is hard esp for teens who like to experiment. But teaching about abstinence should still continue with safe sex and the consequences of sex.

Hey not all teens are horny, sex crazed lunatics...LOL Don't they have pledges to stay virgins till they get married or something. Well at least they try, but yeah, when push comes to shove, then better be prepared!

IcyAnn

But promises are broken, especially by horny teenagers! So better scrap the whole abstinence thing and give them adequate supplies of condoms instead!

Melody_4

dont want to be cynical but i would rather that they be given a whole box of condoms! they wont listen to sermons anyways! Sex ED in school was embarassing!
