how is this diagnosed and treated? I suspect I have it since i have pain during urination.

Go to the doctor, a simple urine test will show wether you have a UTI or not. And a round of antibiotics should do the trick. Make sure to eat yogurt, antibiotics sometimes cause yeast infections in women.
