I had the IUD placed in June-2010. I have normal length but extremly heavy for about 3 months. Now my periods will come every other month or wait 2full months before it comes. And if it comes its be extremly heavy were ill bleed thru a super in a hour. Up to this point i will spot, actually id consider it less then spotting, for days of a brownish color blood. The kind you usually see around the end of your period. Duing this "spotting" time I will also get extremly sick, all the same sypmtoms of morning sickness. Gaggy, nauses, the knot in your throat all day, always tired, no appetiet. Its all there. Ive always been told that the copper IUD does not affect your periods or body in any way since there is no hormones, but i am a mess ever since this IUD. Can any one give me any input

I have the copper IUD as well. Though I am not experiencing long periods between...periods (ha!), in fact much the opposite, mine comes every 22-25 days. I do get the strange brownish blood the first day. Sometimes I get awful cramps in the two weeks before my period too, it was really freaking me out! But, I went to the Gyno yesterday, and she said 'totally normal'. She offered me some serious pain killers, which I declined, but said that is all she could do besides taking it out.

And, yes the copper IUD is said to affect periods. The amount of blood loss tends to increase and the pain and discomfort of cramps worsens especially in those who already have painful periods (I know, not fair, right?), but the good news is, that is it! No hormones means no loss of sex drive or sanity!
