I am on the pill, which I initially started about ten years ago to help regulate my period and hormones. I used to get very long periods, sometimes lasting around eight days. Now they go for around 5 - 6 days.
In the last year or so, despite my period ending a number of days before I have sex again, I have found on several occasions that having sex will cause it to return briefly. It is usually brownish which I have been told means it is old blood.
I asked a doctor about it once and she said that my cervix was tight and did not always get rid of all the blood during my period, and that having sex would sometimes cause the cervix to then open up and get rid of the rest of it. As you can imagine, this is very embarrassing for me. I am really lucky to have such an understanding husband, but is there anything I can do to ensure it all comes out when it's supposed to so that we don't get any nasty surprises after sex?
