Hi Jessica -- Progestin-only pills (POPs) are much safer than combined pills because you avoid all the hazards associated with the estrogen component. However, POPs are also less effective and must be taken at EXACTLY the same time each day. Your period may be less regular. You will still have some pill related side-effects as well.

The combined pills you were on before didn't actually "fix" your irregular cycles, it only introduced a menstrual-like effect that mimicked what your body should be doing. You might see a specialist to get to the bottom of what's really wrong with your system.
Good luck!

I went recently to PP to get my BC method renewed and was told that I could no longer take Orto-trycylne because I have a history of migraines w/aura and that increased the risk of my having a stroke by over 70%. I had to switch to a progesteron only pill and am wondering if what changes I can expect.
I had been on orto-tyi for almost 5 yrs and so had a very regular cycle, now I am being told that I may or may not be regular ever again. One of the reasons I went on BC to begin with was to control a very irregular cycle. I am 28 5'5" and 221 lbs. Any info you can give me would be great! TIA Jessica
