I've been on the pill for about a year now but I really don't like it. I am considering using the sponge or a diaphragm. Can anyone tell me their experiences with these methods? Good or bad would be appreciated. I want something affective but without a bunch of hormones or chemicals. Thanks

I have been using the diaphragm for a year now. I find it kind of annoying and uncomfortable. Perhaps it just wasn't fitted right, I don't know. I would recommend the sponge, which is really quite easy to use. I think it isn't as effective as birth control tho, so maybe you should take that into consideration.

I'm a sponge user myself and i love them!!! very eay to use but i recommend them for those ladies who already have a man and don't plan on getting another one anytime soon. also, get tested for stds first, both you and him, so you don't have to worry about that.

Both the sponge and the diaphagm use a lot of spermicide (chemicals) that are pressed right up to the cervix. I would encourage you to give the cervical cap a shot. It uses less spermicide, and it goes on the side away from the cervix. Do you have any kids yet? There is one more issue to consider. The sponge and cap are a lot less effective than the diaphragm in women who have had children.
