I've been on the pill for about 11 years now (since I was 15). My fiance and I would like to start trying for children. Does anyone know how long it can take before I can expect my periods to get back to normal?

It is recommended that you wait until you have had 2-3 normal menstrual cycles before trying to get pregnant. This is because it may take several months before your cycles return to normal after discontinuing a hormonal method. Doctors use the first day of your last menstrual period to determine your due date; if your periods are irregular this may result in an inaccurate date. Also, there is some evidence that birth control drugs may exert a prolonged effect on the endometrium (lining of the uterus), making it more difficult to become pregnant initially.
Best of luck!

Hi, Give yourself a good 4-8 months for your periods to return to normal. If you're planning a pregnancy the best thing is to wait a year before trying to conceive as your system will benefit by getting rid of all traces of the pill.
